Perceptions – Produced, Written and Directed by Samuell Benta. A film about young people that live on a council estate but perceived to outsiders as “hoodies”. With so much negative press and stereotypes, two teenagers are inspired by an English lesson at school, to use their initiative to change the outlook on the St Raphs Estate, with the use of spoken word poetry. Perceptions is an innovative film with a fresh take on today’s UK urban youth culture. This film was sponsored by Brent Housing Partnership and Wates Maintenance group Ltd.

After the success of All About The McKenzies, Samuell‘s talents was called upon to produce a community film that challenged stereotypes on social housing, to uplift and inspire with a positive message. As this requirement resonated with Samuell‘s values he didn’t hesitate in agreeing to do it. A month of preparation including the writing of a script and 3 days of filming, Perceptions was made. He also saw the opportunity to record (rap) the Perceptions soundtrack.

Perceptions” screened at the British Urban Film Festival at the Genesis Cinema, 93-95 Mile End Road, London E1 4UJ, at 5.30pm on Saturday 6th September 2014 and was a huge success!
